Introduction
Shira Hadasha Melbourne is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information that it stores and collects.
Personal information is information that directly or indirectly identifies a person.
What information does Shira collect
Shira Hadasha collects personal information through membership and email subscriptions and contact information (emails). Shira uses and administers a range of personal information from people in order to support and assist them in their interactions with Shira.
Privacy policy
This privacy policy aims to comply with the Privacy Act (Cth) 1988.
- Only collect information which we require for our primary function as a synagogue.
- In some circumstances (for example in filling out membership forms) Shira may be provided with personal information about an individual from a third party (for example, if a person is taking out membership on behalf of another person).
- Ensure that members are informed why we collect the information, and how it is used.
- Use and disclose personal information only for our primary function, or a directly related purpose (for example, for pastoral care), or for another purpose with that person’s consent.
- Use and disclose information for a secondary purpose, where the secondary purpose is related to the primary purpose and a person would reasonably expect Shira to use it for that purpose; or they consent.
- Collect sensitive information (sensitive information includes information about sexual orientation, racial or ethnic origin and religious beliefs) only with the person’s consent (or if required by law).
Marketing
- Shira will use personal information for direct marketing where that person would reasonably expect it to be used for those purposes (for example, when taking out annual membership); and
- Shira has provided an opt out clause.
- All Shira’s emails include an opt out clause.
Storage of information
Shira will implement and maintain steps to ensure as far as possible that personal information is protected.
Access
People have a right to seek access to any information held about them, and to correct it, if it is inaccurate. Shira will not provide access to another person seeking a person’s personal information.
